Health and Safety Audit
A review of your compliance to current legislation - with a detailed report with practical recommendeations and priorities.
Development of Safety policies
It is a requirement of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 for
employers with more than 5 employees to have a written safety policy. This details
a statement of intent, the organisation and responsibilities of individuals and the arrangements
for managing a safety system.
Writing of Safety Procedures / Manuals
Written safety procedures and work instructions are an essential element of a
safety management system. They will detail what has to be done and who has responsibility.
The lack of written procedures is often the reason why many companies are not
able to offer a robust defence to civil claims.
Safety Plans and Objectives
The HSE guidance on successful health and safety management (HS(G) 65) recommends
the setting of objectives and plans on how to achieve those objectives as a crucial
element of a successful management system.
Contractor Control Systems
Contractors may introduce substantial unfamiliar risks when working on employer's
premises. Management systems can be introduced from
contractor selection through induction and on site monitoring to ensure
that these risks are reduced. Recent civil case law has emphasised that
employers bear a substantial responsibility for the safety of contractors.
Management of Asbestos
The Control of Asbestos at Work regulations 2002 place a duty on employers or
those in control of buildings to manage the risk from asbestos containing materials
in premises. Management systems can be introduced to identify such materials,
record the location of the materials, assess the risks, prepare detailed plans
to manage the risks, and monitor the system.
Writing of safe systems of work - permit to work systems
Where tasks are complex, or there are serious risks of injury, it is essential
to have a written system of work. Typical examples are for permit to work systems.
Waste Disposal Audits
An audit of produced waste streams to ensure compliance with legislation and
opportunities for re-cycling.
